Registration - FAQ

How can we help you?

What is a domain name and what is the need?
  1. A domain name is a name entered into an internet browser to access a specific website such as www.domain.com and it also forms a part of the e-mail address for your business such as johndoe@domain.com.

A domain plays a tremendous role in securing your business online, shows instant credibility to your business, and gains customers’ trust.

How many years can I register a domain for?
  1. The term of registration and renewal for Malaysia domain extension is between 1 to 10 years, whereas other domain extensions are between 1 to 5 years.
My domain has expired. Is the expired domain eligible for renewal and how long does it take for a domain to be released for public registration after the expiry and no renewal?
  1. The renewal grace period for domains is within 30-days.
    • Once a Malaysia domain expires, it will go through a 30-day renewal grace period. After the renewal grace period ends, the domain name will be suspended and terminated 14 days after suspension. Once terminated, the domain name will be available for public purchase.

    • Once any other domain extensions expire, they will go through a 40-day renewal grace period, followed by a 30 day redemption period. Additionally, 5 days after the redemption period ends, the domain will be available for public purchase.
How long does it take for an expired domain to work again after renewal?
  1. Once a domain expires it becomes inactive and the services (e.g. website and email) attached to it will cease to function. Once the domain is renewed, it will take between 24 to 48 hours for the DNS to propagate before any services start working again.
